Bailey House (Twin Towers)

American, 1930–2019

About this artwork

Situated on a steeply sloping site in Hawaii, this private residence was designed to capture views of the harbor below. As seen in his sketch, Tigerman situated the plan of the house to unfold up the hillside. With the garage on the bottom level, the house is cleaved in two—a tiled passageway to move through the home sits within this divide. A teahouse was placed behind the house at the top of the hill, as seen in the model. The ascending design allows for access to the active and public island life while creating private, serene spaces.
