Edited by Susan F. Rossen
The Art Institute of Chicago Museum Studies, published twice annually, presents articles on the collections and history of the Art Institute. This architecture-focused issue contains a chronology and essays recording the planning and building of the Art Institute over nearly 100 years. Essays discuss the history of the Art Institute’s 1893 building, the Art Institute’s guardian lions, the challenges the museum faced in the mid-twentieth century, and the influence of Beaux-Arts Modernism in the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Building.
