The Art Institute of Chicago Museum Studies, published twice annually, presents articles on the collections and history of the Art Institute. Dedicated to Art Institute of Chicago Curator of Prints and Drawings Dr. Harold Joachim, this issue focuses on the holdings of the Department of Prints and Drawings. The issue begins with a tribute to Harold Joachim, then features articles examining the political, intellectual, and moral context of Hans Burgkmair’s Maximilian I on Horseback; the central role of Federico Barocci’s Entombment in the master’s preparation of a major altarpiece; Chardin’s decision to adopt pastels late in life; and the rich and evocative visual language of Joan Miró through a large drawing on canvas
