The Art Institute of Chicago
Museum Studies
Vol. 20, no. 1 (Spring 1994)
Edited by Michael Sittenfeld
The Art Institute of Chicago Museum Studies, published twice annually, presents articles on the collections and history of the Art Institute. This issue commemorates the opening of the museum’s new galleries of ancient art. An introduction to the history of the museum’s ancient art collection is followed by sections of Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, and Roman works, as well as glass vessels of the ancient world. Reproductions of these superb works are accompanied by entries discussing their significance and historical background. Additional entries examine an array of ancient coins. This issue serves as the definitive guide to the Art Institute’s dynamic installation of antiquities.
