CHICAGO—The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Toyia K. Stewart as our new Vice President of Human Resources, People and Culture.

In her role, Toyia will oversee all museum-specific efforts to advance an intentional workplace culture, helping to build upon and nurture the great diversity, inclusion, and talent development work of the People and Culture team.

Toyia joins the museum from Roosevelt University where she served as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Throughout her more than 25 years of human resources experience, she has held many roles across HR and diversity programs. At Roosevelt, she led projects related to talent acquisition, development and management, health and well-being and employee and labor relations, with extensive experience implementing policies, programs, and initiatives across the university. Prior to her work at Roosevelt, she worked in diversity programming within the communication and finance spaces.

“We are thrilled to add Toyia’s leadership to our institution,” said Denise Banks, Chief Human Resources Offices at the Art Institute of Chicago. “Her culture-building experience combined with her integrity and commitment to diversity and people-centered management make her a wonderful addition to our museum.”

Toyia received a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and English from Dominican University and earned her Masters of Business Administration in International Business and Management from Roosevelt University. She has also completed certifications in Human Resources Management from DePaul University and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from the University of South Florida Muma College of Business.
