Plan a Library Visit

To safeguard against the spread of COVID-19, the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries’ reading room is closed through the end of 2020.

Location and Public Hours

Researchers need to enter the museum to use the libraries. The library is located to the south of the Grand Staircase inside the museum’s Michigan Avenue entrance.

The health and safety of the Art Institute community is our highest priority. As such, the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries’ reading room is temporarily closed to the public as we work to thoroughly and thoughtfully respond to the escalating impact of COVID-19.

Library staff has returned onsite on a staggered schedule, so we now have access to our physical collections in order to provide reference services. We encourage you to review our discovery tools and to email with your questions.

Staff Hours

The reading room also remains closed to AIC staff. Staff members can contact library staff on weekdays between 9:00 and 5:00 for reference and research assistance.
