Fiona Asokacitta is a senior at Northwestern University studying art history and Asian history. She is particularly interested in Indonesian social history with a focus on material and visual culture of the 19th–20th century. Her interests span from curatorial work to commercial art, having worked at the Art Institute of Chicago, EXPO Chicago, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, and Richard Norton Gallery. At the Art Institute, she worked in the Asian Art department under Madhuvanti Ghose, Alsdorf associate curator of Indian, Southeast Asian, and Himalayan Art. She is currently a student docent at Northwestern’s Block Museum of Art and is writing her interdisciplinary honor’s thesis on visual reconstructions of Java Man (Pithecanthropus erectus) and its intersections with evolutionary history, colonial scientific policies, and scientific art history. Asokacitta’s work has been published in the Northwestern Undergraduate Research Journal, and she hopes to pursue graduate research in museum anthropology with a focus on Indonesian ethnographic objects.
