This exhibition features highlights from David Garrard Lowe’s eponymous collection of historic Chicago photographs and ephemera, donated by Lowe to the Ryerson and Burnham Archives in 2016. Lowe is a well-known lecturer, historian, and author whose books include Art Deco New York, Stanford White’s New York, and most notably, Lost Chicago, the latter of which documents in words and images dozens of historic structures and sites in Chicago which have been greatly altered or are no longer extant. This collection of approximately 1,100 objects dating from the 1880s to 1980s includes residences, office buildings, hotels, schools, clubs, transportation, infrastructure, and much more.
