China

From the 16th through 19th centuries, Chinese artisans created a dazzling array of objects expressly for export to Europe and, later, markets around the world. These works, including porcelain, lacquerware, and paintings, were produced by local artisans to meet global tastes while showcasing Chinese materials, techniques, and design traditions.

Join curator Seung Hee Oh to learn how the Chinese export objects on view in Gallery 134 were important instruments of cultural exchange.
