What do you think the future will look like? Join us for a special activity to make block prints of imaginative, futuristic scenes inspired by The Dawn of Modernity: Japanese Prints, 1850–1900.
This drop-in program will be led by printmaker Sarita Garcia and held between 11:00 and 3:00. All ages are welcome, and all materials will be provided.
about the teaching artist
Sarita Garcia is a Chicago-based artist, educator, and cultural worker, born and raised in South Tejas. Garcia holds an MA in Arts Education and a BFA with a focus in Fiber and Materials Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a printmaking and fibers artist, Garcia is informed by architectural spaces of her vernacular culture, using image archives to talk about consumerism, identity, and cultural hubs. Garcia’s fantasyscapes showcase how a vocabulary of iconography can empower and remix the reality of these locations.
