In conjunction with the exhibition Frida Kahlo’s Month in Paris: A Friendship with Mary Reynolds, join exhibition co-curator Alivé Piliado Santana and Interpretation’s Nancy Chen for a conversation about the friends and rivals of Frida Kahlo’s artistic circles in Mexico City and in Paris.

about the speakers
Alivé Piliado Santana is curatorial associate at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, part of the Advancing Latinx Art in Museums initiative. At the Art Institute, she co-curated Frida Kahlo’s Month in Paris: A Friendship with Mary Reynolds in collaboration with Caitlin Haskell and Tamar Kharatishvili as a research associate in Modern and Contemporary Art. Piliado has also worked as a curator at national art museums in Mexico City and has contributed to numerous international exhibitions on modern Mexican art.
Nancy Chen is associate director of Gallery Activation in Interpretation at the Art Institute of Chicago. She organizes gallery programs that encourage adult and multigenerational audiences to meaningfully and creatively connect with artworks across the museum’s vast collections.
