Join Peruvian artist Ana De Orbegoso and your fellow teen creatives for a hands-on art experience inspired by her Neo-Huacos. Paint your own version using a plaster cast of one of her works and reflect on your own history, background, and cultural identity, considering how these elements influence how you express yourself artistically. What stories do you want to tell, and how do you want to tell them?
All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary. This workshop is created and hosted by Ana De Orbegoso.
Come early to hear artist Ana De Orbegoso and curator Andrew Hamilton discuss Orbegoso’s work and its influences. They’ll be in Gallery 136 from 11:30 to 12:00.
Museum admission is free for Chicago teens.
Ana De Orbegoso is a New York–based Peruvian multidisciplinary visual artist. She is recognized for her socially engaged and participatory art practice. Through the use of historical iconography, she explores aspects of gender, identity, and collective memory in photography, videos, sculptures, street projections, installations, and multimedia productions. Her work is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago; the National Museum of Women in the Arts; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the National Hispanic Cultural Center; the Walters Art Museum; the Lehigh University Art Galleries; the Lima Art Museum (MALI); and el Museo de Arte de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, among many other institutions.

Únete a jóvenes creativos como tú y a la artista peruana Ana De Orbegoso para crear una obra artística hecha a mano inspirada en sus neo-huacos. En este taller, pintarás tu propia versión utilizando un molde de yeso de una de sus obras para investigar tu propia historia, raíces e identidad cultural, y hacer una reflexión sobre cómo influyen estos elementos en tu forma de expresarte artísticamente. ¿Qué historias quieres contar y cómo quieres contarlas?
Se proporcionarán todos los materiales, y no es necesaria experiencia previa. Este taller ha sido creado y organizado por Ana De Orbegoso.

Ana De Orbegoso es una artista visual multidisciplinar peruana que radica en Nueva York. Es reconocida por su práctica artística socialmente comprometida y participativa.
