Luminary are invited for a private introduction to Jeremy Frey: Woven with curator Andrew Hamilton.
Jeremy Frey is a contemporary artist dedicated to expanding and elaborating the possibilities of traditional Passamaquoddy basketmaking. With more than 50 pieces charting his development as an artist, this exhibition showcases both the time-honored art form of traditional basket weaving and the way Frey has transformed it into something uniquely—exquisitely—his own.
Following the introduction to the show, you are invited to view the exhibition after-hours and gather over light hors d’oeuvres with like-minded Luminary.
This event is exclusive to Luminary members, and advance registration is required.
ABOUT THE Curator
Andrew James Hamilton is associate curator of Arts of the Americas at the Art Institute of Chicago. His work explores the art and architecture of the ancient and colonial Americas, with particular interests in analyzing objects, how they were made, used, and eventually disused, in order to understand why they were created and what cultural meanings they bore.
Andrew is also a lecturer in the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago. He previously served as lecturer in the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University and was a member of the Princeton Society of Fellows. His work has been supported by the American Council of Learned Societies, the Getty Research Institute, the Fondation Fyssen, and the Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Sociale at the Collège de France.
