Mishima Kimiyo 三島喜美代. Carol & Jeffrey Horvitz Collection of Contemporary Japanese Ceramics.
The works featured in Radical Clay: Contemporary Women Artists from Japan are cute and creepy, alluring and fantastical. They defy expectations of ceramics, prompting us to question what is beautiful or conventional in art. In this gallery conversation, we will discuss the artists’ techniques and discover surprising and unusual forms, textures, and meanings.
Join museum educators Marielle Epstein and Atlas Babcock to explore the strange and otherworldly qualities of contemporary Japanese ceramics and to see what happens when we sit with objects and ideas we may find aversive or even grotesque.
