Drop in to Saturday Studio at the Art Institute this summer to explore art-making experiences led by Chicago-based artists! All experience levels and ages are welcome, and materials will be provided.
In the spirit of Paul Cezanne’s pictorial innovation, discover a fresh approach to painting en plein air (outdoors!). Led by Chicago-based painter Leslie Baum, participants will play with watercolor, experiment with color relationships, and focus on abstracted natural imagery—all while honing a personal painterly voice.
This event takes place in the Art Institute’s North Garden, located at the corner of Michigan Avenue and E. Monroe Street. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to Studio A in the museum’s Ryan Learning Center. This event is first-come, first-served based on available supplies; participants are also welcome to bring their own watercolors.
Leslie Baum is a Chicago-based painter whose work is invitational in nature. Her painting practice is informed by over 20 years as a museum educator at the Art Institute of Chicago. Baum received her BA from the University of Vermont and studied abroad at the Glasgow School of Art. She has exhibited nationally and internationally with exhibitions in New York, San Francisco, Portland, Mexico City, Rome, and South Korea. Her drawings and paintings are in permanent collections of the Art institute and the Elmhurst Art Museum.
