Experience the recently reinstalled galleries of African art, and, in conversation with teens from the Art Institute’s Youth Programs, make collaborative creations.

ACTIVITIES IN THE RYAN LEARNING CENTER
Spin Drawings in THE FAMILY ROOM—Design your own mesmerizing drawings and watch them come to life as they spin.
Room to Move in the INTERACTIVE GALLERY—Lights, costumes, action! Step into an immersive stage-like space and find something to try on. Choreograph your moves to music and sounds as lights change.
Magical Moving Discs in CLASSROOM 5—Create an optical illusion toy called a thaumatrope to animate your own drawings.
The Little Studio (Ages 5 and under) in CLASSROOMS 3 & 4—Join the movement! Young learners explore moving fast and slow through experimentation, play, and art making.
Hats, Headdresses, and More in STUDIO B—Work alongside fashion artist DJ DeGayner and create a wearable work of art that moves with you.
African Dance Workshop in STUDIO A 12:00 AND 2:00 (20 MINUTES)—Learn some African dance steps and move along to the rhythm with dance educators from Ayodele Drum and Dance.
ACTIVITIES IN THE MUSEUM GALLERIES*
Performance: African Dance in GRIFFIN COURT 11:00 AND 1:00 (20 MINUTES)—Experience African dance movements and rhythms with Ayodele Drum and Dance.
Performance: ChoreoLab in GRIFFIN COURT 1:30 AND 2:30 (20 MINUTES)—Dancers from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s ChoreoLab perform original work inspired by the museum’s galleries and choreographed by the ensemble’s young dancers.
Movement and Stories (Ages 8 and under) in GALLERY 144 11:30, 12:30, AND 1:30 (20 MINUTES)—Listen to a story as you experience creative movement led by Nubia Henderson of kids jamm. Stories include The Rhino Who Swallowed the Storm by LeVar Burton and I Am Enough by Grace Byers.
Moving through a Still Life MEET IN GALLERY 100 11:30 AND 1:00 (30 MINUTES)—See how many ways you can pose and move by looking at the space in a painting with your family and friends.
