Celebrate the Year of the Pig and its promise of prosperity at this multi-generational event featuring art making, storytelling, music, game, and gallery tours in English and Mandarin. Check out the schedule below to plan your visit. 

Activities in the Ryan Learning Center

Dancing Dragons
THE FAMILY ROOM
Drop in 1:00–4:30
Chinese dragons are a symbol of power, authority, and strength. Create a dancing dragon and bring good fortune to your family’s Chinese New Year Celebrations.

Lucky Red Envelopes
STUDIOS A and B
Drop in 1:00–4:30
Make and decorate a hóngbāo, a lucky red envelope, as a gift for someone special. Write and draw a personal message inside for good luck and prosperity in the new year.

Gallery Talks
MEET IN GALLERY 100 
Every 30 minutes 1:00–4:00 
Enjoy short talks in the Chinese galleries exploring the themes of ritual and immortality, the Silk Road, and symbols of good fortune. Talks are in English and Mandarin. (Maximum group size: 20 people)

Play Weiqi (Go)
GALLERIES 140–42
Drop in 1:00–4:30
Try your hand at a strategy board game invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and played regularly by more than 20 million people worldwide.

The Lucky Trikes 

GRIFFIN COURT
1:30, 2:30, 3:30 (20 minutes) 
Join performance artists The Lucky Trikes for original music accompanying stories about lineage and Chinese New Year celebrations.

Chinese Music

2:00, 3:00, 4:00 (20 minutes) 
Enjoy a performance of classic and contemporary Chinese music on traditional instruments.

Head over to Millennium Park at 5:00 to join a lantern procession to Maggie Daley Park for more New Year's activities, including a lion dance, art making, and ice skating.

博物馆展厅内的中国新年活动**
