Elderly Couple In A Garden Stage Design

Nicolai Remisoff. Elderly Couple in a Garden: Stage Design for Chauve-Souris, 1922. Gift of Robert Allerton.

Nicolai Remisoff led a colorful life as an artist and theater designer. He trained in his native Russia, fled the country after the Revolution, and then worked as a theater designer in Paris and New York. After settling Chicago in 1925, Remisoff designed opera and ballet productions and painted murals in public buildings around the metropolitan area, before moving to California where he worked on Hollywood films and television.

Join speaker Jeff Nigro to learn more about the artist's incredible career, from Russia to Chicago to Hollywood.
