Ancient Egyptian Personal Names
This list contains the ancient Egyptian names that appear on objects in this catalogue. Because hieroglyphic writing does not include vowels, scholars’ approaches to vocalizing ancient Egyptian words and names vary. Here, the spelling used in the catalogue is given, followed by an English vocalization in parentheses (for longer names), the hieroglyphic spelling(s) found on the objects, a transliteration, and the relevant catalogue number(s). When the name includes the name of a god or king, that name has been capitalized in the vocalization (for example, “Re” in “Kheper-ka-Re”). If an element of the name is missing, that has been indicated in brackets. For reference, alternate spellings provided in previous publications are included where appropriate. Names are arranged in order according to the English alphabet.
