Mellon Chicago Objects Study Initiative Fellowships
Host department: Academic Engagement and Research and Curatorial (rotating)
Established in 2014 with support from the Mellon Foundation, the Chicago Objects Study Initiative (COSI) is a tri-institutional collaboration aimed at enhancing object-based art historical training for doctoral students at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago in partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago. COSI Fellowships are geared toward students in their fifth through seventh year of doctoral studies and in the advanced stage of writing their dissertations. These fellows are expected to spend two days per week at the Art Institute of Chicago, performing primary, scholarly research and writing about objects in the museum’s collection; the remaining time is devoted to completing the dissertation. These fellowships are not open for public application.
