Avşar Gürpınar
Avşar Gürpınar is a scholar, designer, and engineer as well as co-founder of the artist collective the Ambiguous Standards Institute. An assistant professor of architecture at Istanbul Bilgi University, his research focuses on critical design, cultural studies, and the history of art and design.
Avşar has exhibited works and collaborative projects at multiple Istanbul Design Biennials and at the Istanbul Modern Museum, Milano Design Week, and DESIGNMAI Berlin and Hong Kong. He co-authored the book Daily Life Studies Publication No. 1 (2016) and curated the exhibition The New Domesticity: Furniture Issue for Dutch Design Week 2016 in Eindhoven.
He holds a BSc degree in electrical engineering and an MSc and PhD in industrial product design, and he participated in the digital media MA program at HFK Bremen.
