Haemin Kim was a 2026 McMullan Arts Leadership Intern in Provenance Research.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in art history and East Asian languages and civilizations from the University of Chicago. Her BA thesis—recipient of the Asada Eiji Prize for the best undergraduate thesis on a topic related to East Asia—analyzed a 19th-century Korean folding screen that blended artistic vocabularies across social classes and regions. She also curated Drifting Timelines 流动时序, an exhibition of three contemporary East Asian artists that challenged linear narratives of diaspora and time.

At the Art Institute, Haemin has published provenance statements for 4,500+ objects across the Arts of Asia, Applied Arts of Europe, and Arts of Africa collecting areas and conducted data surveys to identify gaps, patterns, and trends in the museum’s acquisition history. In addition, she works as an educator at Wrightwood 659 and is a professional digital illustrator for game and animation studios.
