Fatma Ismail

Dr. Fatma Ismail is the United States Director for Outreach and Programs at the American Research Center in Egypt. She earned her PhD in Near Eastern Studies at Johns Hopkins University and has held teaching positions at various colleges in Maryland since 2010. Ismail’s many publications and articles about Egyptology include Cult and Ritual in Persian Period Egypt, published by Yale University in 2019. Her research interests span a wide range of disciplines including early religious history and the histories of North Africa and the Near East. Ismail has also participated in archaeological excavations and museum exhibitions, further contributing to the dissemination and preservation of cultural heritage. Her interdisciplinary work, including the ongoing Egyptian Egyptology State of the Field Project, synthesizes insights from various fields to illuminate our understanding of ancient civilizations.
