Schetauna Powell is the Daniel and Ada Rice Curatorial Fellow working in the Art Institute’s Architecture and Design department from 2024 through 2027.

Schetauna’s work translates complex information into material interactions and supports the pedagogy and performance of collaborative design. At the Art Institute of Chicago, Schetauna works closely with curators Alison Fisher and Irene Sunwoo on research that expands the museum’s ability to present stories about African American Architecture and Design in Chicago.

Powell previously worked at the Museum of Fine Art Houston (MFAH) as lead teaching artist for Glassell on the Go, a studio-art outreach program that brings high-quality art classes directly to local communities. After her tenure at the MFAH, Powell organized conferences and curated art shows for the Black Speculative Art Movement at the Houston Museum of African American Culture.

Powell earned her BA in English literature and an MA in Black Studies. In 2024, she completed an MFA in designed objects at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with honors.
