Jitish Kallat
Jitish Kallat is a Mumbai-born and -based artist. His conceptually and materially diverse artistic practice frequently intersects with the realms of science, history, and mathematics. While some of his works reflect on the transient present, others invoke the past, drawing from historical archives and utterances. His work has been widely exhibited at major museums and institutions worldwide, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Modern, and the Serpentine Galleries.
In 2010, Kallat created the site-specific work Public Notice 3 at the Art Institute, reflecting on the museum’s unique history as the site of the First World’s Parliament of Religions, where Swami Vivekananda delivered his landmark speech calling for religious tolerance. Kallat also served as the curator and artistic director of the 2014 Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and in 2017, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi presented a mid-career survey of his work, Here After Here 1992–2017.
