Jessy Lembke

Lembke Jessy 1

Jessy Lembke (they/them) is a McMullan Arts Leadership Intern working in Textiles this summer. Jessy recently graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BA of art history. Jessy’s creative practice of weaving and fiber arts has led to a renewed research interest in hand-making and craft at the advent of the industrial and modern eras. Their weaving practice also has fostered a fascination with homesteading and permaculture practices, building on experiences from growing up in rural Oregon. For the past four years, they have served as SAIC’s SITE Gallery’s archivist and volunteered in the Field Museum’s insect collection, where Jessy has fostered a commitment to collections and museum accessibility. At the Art Institute of Chicago, Jessy collaborated with her mentor, Katherine Andereck, collection manager in Textiles.
