James H. Allan

Photograph of a light-skinned man with dark-rimmed glasses in a gray suit, James Allan, standing against a wooden railing, his right arm resting upon it. Behind him is the upper level of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Woman’s Board Grand Staircase, in marble, as well as a large white sculpture and four decorative columns.

James H. Allan is executive director, Philanthropy, at the Art Institute of Chicago. In his more than 25 years with the organization, he has held a variety of roles at the museum, the School, and the Gene Siskel Film Center. In addition to his work at the museum, James is a docent with the Chicago Architecture Center and has led a variety of tours for them over the last 25 years. His specialty is the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. He holds a BSFS from Georgetown University, where his coursework included art history, architectural history, and art and culture.
