Colin C. Mackenzie

Since 2018, Colin C. Mackenzie has been curator of Chinese art at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he is currently researching the Edward and Louise B. Sonnenschein Collection of ancient Chinese jades. In 2021 curated Cosmoscapes: Ink Paintings by Tai Xiangzhou with Tao Wang, with whom he also curated 2019’s Expressive Ink: Paintings by Yang Yanping and Zeng Shanqing.
Colin was previously curator of Chinese art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and curator of Asian art at the Asia Society, New York. Notable publications include The Chinese Art Book (2013), Masterpieces of Chinese Art: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (2010), and Asian Games: The Art of Contest (2003), as well as numerous scholarly articles on ancient Chinese jades and bronzes.
He holds a bachelor of arts and PhD in Chinese art and archaeology from the University of London and studied Chinese language and archaeology for two years at Beijing University.
