Jena K. Carvana
Jena is the curatorial associate for Painting and Sculpture of Europe. Since joining the Art Institute in 2015, she has worked on a number of gallery and permanent collection research projects and has provided exhibition research support for El Greco: Ambition and Defiance (2020), Van Gogh and the Avant-Garde: The Modern Landscape (2023), and Among Friends and Rivals: Caravaggio in Rome (2023). Before joining the Art Institute, she held collection and curatorial internships at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Royal Armories, Leeds; and the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago.
Jena received a master of arts degree in medieval history from the University of Leeds with a dissertation on Alfonso VI’s treatment of non-Christian populations and spaces during his conquest of Toledo, Spain.
