Based in 台北,台灣 (Taipei, Taiwan), jonCates creates and curates Glitch Art. He is widely recognized as a founder and key figure in Glitch Art. From the Glitch Western to 金山 (goldMountain), his artistic practice now encompasses blockchains. He curated the acclaimed exhibition Chicago New Media: 1973–1992, an invited program of Ars Electronica, and most recently founded the Glitch Art Gallery to exhibit his extensive collection and archive spanning decades of Digital Art. Cates’s Media Art Hystories publications have been issued by MIT Press, the University of Chicago Press, Penn State University Press, Intellect Books, University of Illinois Press, West Den Haag, Gestalten, and Unsorted Books. At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he developed the New Media Art curriculum, ranked Best New Media Program in Best Fine Arts Schools by U.S. News and World Report.
