Horace D. Ballard

Horace D. Ballard (he/they), PhD, is a hiker, poetry enthusiast, and the Theodore E. Stebbins Associate Curator of American Art at the Harvard Art Museums. His research interests include the legibilities of gender and race in colonial-era and early Federal portraiture, colonial men’s fashion, and the visual and material cultures of religion in the Americas. Ballard received his doctorate in American visual culture from Brown University. He also holds degrees from Yale and the University of Virginia.
