Kerry James Marshall

Born in 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama, Kerry James Marshall has exhibited widely throughout Europe and the United States since the late 1970s and early 1980s. His work in many media reveals and questions the social constructs of beauty, taste, and power, and has been the focus of numerous solo exhibitions both domestic and international. His many honors include a 1997 grant from the MacArthur Foundation and the 2019 W. E. B. Du Bois Medal from Harvard University.
