About this artwork
This sheet is evidence of the working relationship between Frankenthaler and her master printer, Donn H. Steward. The artist noted in the margin that the black line “seems too sharp” and requested proofs without the line. The resulting sheets must have pleased Frankenthaler, as she removed the line from the published edition.
