About this artwork
Simone Cantarini was born in Pesaro but studied and traveled widely. He was the most important follower of Guido Reni and worked with him in Bologna until they parted company in 1637. Cantarini returned to Bologna around 1642, after Reni’s death, but he also spent time in Rome and Mantua, ultimately dying in Verona. He etched about 35 prints.
