About this artwork
Primarily a printmaker, Stefano della Bella became famous for his genre and festival scenes. He was one of the first specialist etchers who eschewed religious subjects in favor of his personal fantasies. Under the patronage of Grand Duke Lorenzo de’Medici, della Bella studied in Rome and later moved to Paris. He returned to Florence in 1650 and continued to work for the Medici family.
