About this artwork
In this composition the winged figure of Glory descends from a starry sky. She holds a palm leaf, often associated with martyrdom and greatness, in one hand, and small flowers flow out of the other. In other versions of this print Fantin pays homage to Richard Wagner by including the composer’s name on a gravestone below Glory’s feet. Such an image suggests the composer’s immortality achieved through his masterful, enduring compositions.
