About this artwork

This surimono, a depiction of a bamboo stem with bamboo leaves, print takes makes full use of the vertical format of the print by stressing the verticality of the large stem. The elements of the bamboo plants are done drawn within an elegant imitation of a painting brush; indeed, the design appears to have been painted and notrather than printed with woodblocks prints. The seal at the bottom of the print is also a reference to the painting tradition.
