About this artwork

Dominick Labino began his career as a successful industrial designer. His engineering background helped him advance new methods of fusing colored glass in its molten state. This process was used to create the distinct layering of colors seen in Volcanic Stages. Labino developed a glass melting furnace small enough to be handled by one person in 1962, placing him at the forefront of the American studio glass movement.
