About this artwork
The patterns on this rare compote—a peacock-feather border with a scrolled-eye center—were two of the most important and popular early-19th-century American patterns produced. For Americans, such pressed designs were less expensive and more accessible alternatives to the cut glass produced in Great Britain and Continental Europe.
