About this artwork
Little is known about the American designer Laura Lange. On the evidence of her work, she was a talented designer whose color usage, pattern rhythms, and lightness of spirit link her closely to Hillerbrand, her teacher. The cheery patern seen in this work consists of staggered rows of bowls of fruit, recognizable but presented in a highly abstracted way, standing on little mats. This is one of two different colorways of the pattern donated to the department by Allerton.
