About this artwork

A prolific designer of posters for the Underground for more than 35 years, Fred Taylor was well known for his architectural renderings. In this poster on Hampton Court, he made sure to include details of the palace architecture in the background. The poster depicts Thomas Cardinal Wolsey, who built the palace before giving it to King Henry VIII. Taylor wonderfully contrasted the red of Wolsey’s robes with the magenta chair on which he sits and his palace of pink bricks.
