About this artwork
This still-unidentified early Netherlandish artist, who signed only with the letter W and the image of a key, is particularly known for his distinctive views of ships. Israhel van Meckenem and other printmakers copied many of his popular subjects. His images of monstrances and other ecclesiastical apparatus contained a level of detail similar to Martin Schongauer’s Censer.
