Possibly William C. Desmond’s aunts; William C. Desmond (1824–1906), Philadelphia, PA, by 1904; bequeathed to Fredonia Medora Desmond (1859–1946), Point Pleasant, PA, March 13, 1904 [according to Christie’s, October 9, 2002, lot 239, which quotes William Desmond, “Inventory of Antique Furniture,” 1904]. Private collection, Pennsylvania, by c. 1940; sold, Christie’s, October 9, 2002, lot 239, with Seth Thayer as agent to Marshall Field V, Illinois; given to the Art Institute of Chicago, 2021.
