About this artwork

Papers, published materials, architectural drawings, photographs, slides, and book production materials document the career of American architect Allan Gelbin and his interactions with noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright and the Taliesin Fellowship. Gelbin was an apprentice to Wright at Taliesin from 1949 to 1953, after which he worked as a general contractor and supervisor overseeing the construction of three Wright homes in Canton, Ohio, and one in New Canaan, Connecticut. In private practice on the East Coast, Gelbin continued Wrightian design in residential architecture and authored Sun, earth, and sky: ideas for a new city (1989), an “up-dated” version of Wright’s Broadacre City plan.
