About this artwork
Mathias Bengtsson delights in using industrial technology to expand the functional possibilities of materials and production methods. He derives his furniture’s seemingly futuristic forms from processes of organic growth, aligning his practice with the rounded (biomorphic) forms of the Danish design tradition. A robotic arm followed a digital model to build the Spun Chaise Lounge, weaving slender strips of filament around a mold. The result is an incredibly lightweight chair that welcomes and supports the human body with a surprisingly minimal structure.
