As audio technology has changed rapidly over the course of the 20th century, from records and radio to the MP3, many iconic designs for audio devices have captured the public’s imagination and embodied innovation. Today the basic functions of sound systems have changed. Yves Béhar’s 2011 Jambox speaker is an innovative new product that seamlessly connects with a range of devices, including computers and smartphones, to
function as a mechanical extension of the digital music library. Béhar’s decades of experience as a product and industrial designer allowed him to pare down the complex controls of most audio devices to just three buttons and a wrap-around, embossed mesh grill in a solid bold color, leaving speakers fully exposed for maximum sound and endowing the Jambox with a distinctive presence.
