About this artwork

This presentation model for Kukje Gallery brings the abstract ideas developed in the conceptual and schematic model into concrete form while introducing the relationship of the building to the site. By including the harsh box of a nearby campus element, SO – IL emphasizes the unique impact of their design and how this responds within the neighborhood. This model depicts how the rigid forms of the building push against the flexible metal fabric in a dynamic interaction. The sheer surface of this model illustrates how changes in lighting and views create alternating translucent and opaque qualities that both mask and reveal the hard forms beneath. Most notably, this model showcases the paradoxes that SO–IL develops with this project: hard and soft, closed and permeable, solid and dissolving.
