About this artwork
Whitney Halstead became Kathleen Blackshear’s assistant in 1948 and eventually a revered art-history professor at SAIC. He took a special interest in the work of local self-taught artist Joseph Yoakum, collecting over 200 of his drawings, which he bequeathed to the Art Institute after his untimely death.
