About this artwork
Edited by leading architects of the Russian avant-garde, including Aleksandr Vesnin and Moisei Ginzburg, CA was the most important contemporary architectural journal in Russia in the 1920s. Far from a nationalist enterprise, it promoted an international perspective on building, publishing theory and designs by Soviet and western European architects. Constructivist artists Aleksei Gan and Varvara Stepanova designed the covers, like this one, with bold and colorful graphics that reflect the journal’s revolutionary mission.
