About this artwork

Edited by leading architects of the Russian Avant garde,
including Aleksandr Vesnin and Moisei Ginzburg, CA was
the most important contemporary architectural journal
in Russia in the 1920s. Far from a nationalist enterprise,
it pursued a distinctly international program, publishing
architectural theory and designs by Soviet and Western
European architects. Constructivist artists Aleksei Gan and
Varvara Stepanova designed the covers with bold graphics
and striking pink, red, orange, and green, two-color covers
that reflected the journal’s revolutionary mission.
